High school №1 is in Samara, which is the ninth largest city in Russia. The city is located in the southwest of Russia on the left bank of the Volga River , contributing to the temperate continental climate with an average annual temperature of +5.7° and solar radiation of 3.3 kWh/m2.

The grammar school was founded in 1990 and today has 1,272 pupils, who have the opportunity of in-depth foreign language education in English, French and German. In addition to the general education program, the high school offers courses in humanistic and socio-economic fields, as well as in physics and mathematics and natural sciences.

High school №1 is a RAW school (Schools of the Russian Academy of Sciences). Since January 2017, the school has been included on the list of educational organizations selected by the Central Bank of Russia as reference schools for the introduction of financial literacy basics in education. In 2017, its pupils won the regional competition for social and cultural projects of "Lukoil" in the section "Ecology". It has its own school television (Gymn TV), the participants of which were the winners of an international competition promoted by Eurasia Foundation in 2019.

In addition, the school has been a member of the initiative "Schools: Partners for the Future (PASCH)" since 2009 and has been maintaining an international student exchange program with the Königin-Olga-Gymnasium in Stuttgart, Germany, for over 20 years.
